About

We've been helping our clients communicate since 2008.

Our story

Morph was founded in 2008, when Tom Urry and Gareth Dennison moved in to The Storey building in Lancaster.

Before that, we worked as freelancers across video, animation, and graphic design. We spent ten years based at The Storey before moving fully to our photo and video studio in Kendal in 2018, which we had set up in 2015. Around the time we fully moved to Kendal, Matthew Brook joined the business, bringing more than 15 years’ experience in health and social care software development.

Like most people, we worked from home during the COVID period, before reassembling in our current base in the centre of Kendal. Throughout it all, we’ve deliberately maintained a small, talented team, working closely with the people we support.

Health research

We’d worked on a handful of health research projects early on, but the real turning point came in 2016, when we became involved in the TRECA project at the University of York.

TRECA explored whether there were better ways of delivering patient information than the standard printed sheet. The project tested different approaches — including animation, video, and web — to see whether children and parents understood the information more clearly.

That work gave us a valuable introduction to clinical trials and the practical challenge of producing effective patient information. Through the contacts we made on TRECA, we began working on more trials, and this side of the business grew naturally from there. Today, almost all our work is in health research, with a strong focus on patient communication.

Now and next

Over the years, we’ve worked closely with trial teams, trial managers, technology experts, clinical researchers, and chief investigators.

We’ve listened carefully, learned as we’ve gone, and paid attention to the common challenges. That experience shapes the work we do today. The Patient Information Tool grew out of our attempts to improve how patient information is delivered and used in real life.

We’ve now worked on upwards of 100 trials, and we use that experience to keep improving our solutions.

We’re interested in what’s coming next, and we’ll use new tools where they add something useful. Our focus is on making thoughtful improvements and building things that genuinely help.

Meet the team

Tom Urry

Tom trained in video production after a long period of travelling and working. This led to freelance work as a cameraman and editor, before forming Morph with Gareth, whom he had met on a filmmaking course over twenty years earlier. The third director, Matthew, is a friend from primary school. Tom helps guide the direction of the business and is often the first point of contact for new enquiries and client relationships.

Matthew Brook

Matthew is a software professional with over 20 years’ experience in health and social care IT. He joined Morph as a director in 2018 and leads on all things web-related, from initial client conversations through to delivery and support, also overseeing contracts and finances. He is particularly interested in improving processes and finding practical ways to use new technology to support efficient delivery.

Gareth Dennison

Gareth studied graphic design at Leeds and worked commercially for 10 years as an in-house designer and a freelancer. After focusing on illustration and retraining in animation, Gareth formed Morph with Tom in 2008. He leads on the design and storyboard production for Morph.
