D-MAPP Study

Digital Management of Arm Pain Programme.

The D-MAPP Study is evaluating a digital self-management programme to support people with arm, wrist and hand pain.

Distal upper limb musculoskeletal disorders — affecting areas such as the elbow, wrist and hand — are common and can impact work and everyday activities. The D-MAPP (Digital Management of Arm Pain Programme) study is investigating whether a digital intervention can help people better manage these conditions. Co-designed with patients, clinicians and researchers, the programme combines education, exercises and behaviour change support to encourage adherence and improve symptom management over time.

Morph solution

Morph designed and developed the D-MAPP digital programme in collaboration with the research team. In this project, our role extended beyond communication materials to building the digital intervention itself.

  • D-MAPP App — a bespoke digital platform delivering structured self-management support for people experiencing arm pain. Developed through a co-design process with patients, clinicians and researchers, the app provides guidance, exercises and educational content through a clear and accessible interface. The programme incorporates behaviour change principles to encourage engagement and adherence to treatment, allowing participants to work through the content at their own pace.
  • In-app Explainer Animations — a series of short animations integrated within the app to explain how the exercises and management strategies work. These were tailored to specific patient groups, including conditions such as tennis elbow and carpal tunnel syndrome, helping users understand how to complete the exercises safely and manage their symptoms more effectively.

Working with Morph has been an excellent experience. Their combination of thoughtful design, clear guidance, and strong technical expertise helped us build a user‑friendly digital healthcare app that will make a real difference for patients. We’re really pleased with the outcome and would happily collaborate with them again.
